For this first articleI wanted to present a conversation in the form of a podcast to allow people to get to know me better. Rather than giving a long monologue, I invited my friend Pépé to come visit me so we could chat about topics that interest us both: film, music, but also art and life in general! To listen to the conversation, click on the video below!
Since the beginning of our friendship, cinema has undoubtedly been our favorite topic of conversation, and upon reflection, I found that it would be the to launch this magazine with an exchange between a musician and an illustrator who talk about cinema!
Of course, we also talk about music and visual art, but I think we can say without a shadow of a doubt that Pépé and I are real movie buffs!
Ha! And, since we're on the subject of Pépé, I'll take this opportunity to give you a sneak peek of a project we both started in the summer of 2025.
At the end of a rather festive evening, the idea of creating a series of illustrations that he would then have printed on t-shirts and sell at his shows came up. It was a matter of having some merch more original than usual, but also to have some to create something together. The project took a slightly different turn when I suggested instead that we launch printed posters with the illustrations.
So we produced three limited edition posters, each signed by both of us! My concept was to visually represent the lore of Pepe, his world with a touch rockabilly community. worthy of the good old comics de Archies and his gangIt's really fun to do and we're talking about continuing the adventure this year.
Posters are on sale at the shows Grandpa and His Guitar and on my online store Right here :)
Many works and artists have been mentioned in this discussion, so here is a short, incomplete list of several of them:
Films, filmmakers and actors mentioned: Martin Scorsese, director of the films: Taxi Driver et Goodfellas, Pepe mentioned the famous The Big Lebowski The Coen brothers! I also talked about the film with Robert De Niro and the young Leonardo DiCaprio: This Boy's Life, Scent of a woman, Bridge of Spies de Spielberg as well as the film St-Vincent with Bill Murray as a grumpy old man and Role Model.
We also talked about Quebec music, including the following artists who I think are worth discovering: Louis-Philippe Gingras, NOBRO et How Debord.
I also appointed the poster artist Victor, Here are some of his posters:
In conclusion, here are a few illustrations from my first fanzines, created when I was 15 or 16. You can see that I already enjoyed working with India ink, as well as creating atmospheric scenes with wandering thug characters!
So that concludes this first article! I encourage you to subscribe to this newsletter, which I've named Bavure Magazine, if you haven't already, to receive all future articles by email.
I also invite you to share this with your friends and leave a comment below if you feel like it, whether it's about what was discussed, to share your opinion, or to ask a question. I'll try to reply to everyone!
